East-West Lumber Sdn Bhd (“EWL“) is a startup which has developed a new proprietary RAPID-DRY fast drying and other timber treatment, enhancement and processing techniques. These new treatment protocols add positive properties and enhancements and are focused on planted / renewable timber species.

Our green processes have the potential to revive the timber / lumber industry from its “sunset” status, confer many socio-economic benefits and giving a boost to the sustainable forests industry.

The technology will transform lumber from lower density species to a lumber that will comply or better the Durability 3 standard. Species from sustainable plantations such as Acacia and Rubber can be easily treated to meet the standards. We are treating species from the MLH category and bring them up to the required specifications of D3.

These treated species can then be used as a replacement for traditional tropical hardwood truck flooring, decking, cladding and other outdoor uses. The HTD System is able to convert plantation species into a lumber than can equal or exceed D3 EN 113 Standard. Products will range from decking to truck and container flooring, furniture, components, jointed timber pieces and paneling.

The HTD process will produce

3 main grades of products

HTD, Thermowood and Durawood.

HTD

HTD timber is simply normal timber (acacia, meranti or MLH) rapidly dried (compared to conventional air drying and then Kiln Drying) to the required moisture content.

Thermowood

Thermowood is timber that has been heat treated to change or improve certain properties such as colour, insect and water resistance, durability, etc.

Durawood

Durawood is timber that has been infused with a special polymer and will also have the properties of Thermowood such as colour and insect resistance but is very highly water resistant and more durable. This is an additional / boost to make timber hydrophobic.
